The Central Agricultural University, Imphal was established in 1993 under the Central Agricultural University Act of Parliament 1992. The University is unique in India by way of its presence in Six Hill States of North East India barring Assam and Nagaland. However, Nagaland is soon joining to the fold of CAU with a new college of Veterinary Sciences. The University has at present 10 colleges . It has been able to prove its credibility by its excellence in teaching, research and extension education.. The University could secure second postion twice in India with the number of successful JRF candidates. Many technologies, including four improved rice varities of unique characters have been accepted by the farmers of the region. A perennially food defecit region of the country has started looking towards Central Agricultural University for the solutions of many agricultural problems. The University has proved itself to be the vanguard in the effort of mitigating food deficit and improving livelihood of the people of North East India.
The College of Agricultural Enginnering and Post-harvest Technology has been started in the year 2006 with single undergraduate program of Agricultural University. In 2010 - 11 another undergraduate program food technology has been added . Now the college is offering two undergraduate cources , 03 post graduate courses, post graduate programs in Soil and Water Engineering, Farm Machinery & Power and Post Harvest Technology. The College at present engaged in high end research with extramural projects from DBT/DST &  ICAR and other funding agencies.
